Cable touch down monitor

This touchdown monitoring system was used while laying the NorNed cable. Basically it consists of a trolley, travelling up and down the cable and a tautwire unit. The trolley measures the cable's local tangent and the tautwire meaures the location of the trolley. Together, these two measurements allow determining the shape of the cable as well as the touchdown angle. The benefit of the system is of course that monitoring touchdown no longer requires the presence of an expensive ROV.
