Seatools
The ‘Carrera 4’ is a multipurpose jet excavation system, ideally suited for trenching, (de)burial, stabilization and/or excavation of seabed materials. The system can be used over and around (live) sub sea cables, pipelines and damage-sensitive structures such as wellheads and manifolds, in soils ranging from silt, sand, clay and gravel to rock dump and sandbags. Furthermore the tool can be used for pipeline span corrections. The ‘Carrera 4’ is a self-contained and integrated system with the footprint of a 20’ container. It is specifically designed for easy installation and operation. The excavation tool, which is operated between 2 and 5 metres above the seabed and controlled from a deck-mounted cabin, has a variable power source, adjustable propeller speed and trench width parameters and a patented anti-torque, dual tunnel arrangement to enable cutting, blowing or a combination of the two.
The blowing mode is used for excavating non-cohesive soft soil, sand, gravel, rock dump or sandbags and produces a high flow of 2 x 5 m3/s water with a velocity of 7 m/s, allowing production rates between 600 to 1000 m3/hour.
The cutting mode is used to break up clay, cohesive soils and hard materials, such as spilled grout. A flow of 2 x 1 m3/s with a velocity of 14 m/s is able to cut soft to medium stiff clay (standard up to 15kPa, optional up to 50kPa). The ‘Carrera 4’ provides significant advantages over other methods of excavation due to its:
